Many fulltimers were inveterate RVers long before they jumped into the lifestyle fulltime. However, we're finding a lot of young people these days who are selling off their homes, or getting out of rented homes and apartments and moving directly into an RV. Older ones too, on reaching retirement are ready to hit the road, and sometimes do so without prior RV experience.
If you can, "practice" the fulltime lifestyle by moving into your RV in the driveway or an RV park near your old home first. It'll give you an opportunity to learn how to get around in your rig, and establish what new ways of doing things you'll need to cover. If you have to move into your rig directly, make sure your "first day on the road," is a SHORT one--no more than just a few hours. Leave yourself plenty of daylight to get some of the immediate bugs worked out. Not only that, you'll feel a lot less pressured and you can enter the ranks of the fulltimers without unnecessary stress.

We started out about 2 years ago got to our first stop and found we forgot a few items, did OK without them though. That's part of the adventure.
We rented a couple of RV's before buying ours, after much research. Our first rental was 11 days in Alaska, where we realized we could get used to doing that quite easily! We've been living in ours full time since February, and it's been great! We did stay at a local RV Park for a little while before hitting the road, getting things set up and getting some work done. We didn't have the option of the driveway, since we lived in an apartment, so we moved directly from the apartment to the RV. We are now back in Alaska, after having spent a month in Baja California, then slowly working our way up north. It's time to head back south now - and we will be looking for work for the winter, but probably living in the RV for at least a while, until (if) we decide to settle somewhere again. Every short trip we took from August of 2006 when we bought the RV to mid-February 2007 when we moved into it was a learning experience and we have continually been learning as we go, figuring out what works for us and what doesn't. We love it, and wish we were retired and could live on the road full time in our RV indefinitely!
Love your Blog.
We are full-time RVers since 9/2006 when Marsha retired early. We have our BLOG with most of our travels since September as well as photos. Perhaps you and friends would check it out and let me know what you think. We plan to start a new BLOG once we start up the East Coast leaving Florida in April and would appreciate ideas. Thanks.
